New Multicolor Quilled Paper Portraits by Yulia Brodskaya

New Multicolor Quilled Paper Portraits by Yulia Brodskaya

We have all come to know and adore the quilled portraits from talented paper artist Yulia Brodskaya, which are absolutely stunning and immensely detailed. Brodskaya has achieved a truly unique style in her works that sets her apart from other quilling artists, making each bold piece a truly fine work of art. Her latests works incorporate a style she has developed that is almost like painting with paper. As you can see with Amethyst above and Jade and Topaz respectively below, the use of densely folded or rolled paper into color blocks, mimics the broad strokes of a paintbrush, following the curvature around the eyes and mouth as well as the finer details of their faces. Be sure to check out the video below of her process in creating Jade. All I have to say is... WOW!

Paper Quilled Roses and Typography Inspired by Shining Light Lyrics

Lavanya Naidoo is a paper artist and tactile designer based in South Africa, whose talents and mastery in quilled artwork and typography are absolutely stunning. I was particularly drawn to her piece entitled "Thorn in My Side," a personal project where the quote was inspired by the musical lyrics from Ash’s song ‘Shining Light’ and it aptly fit into her love for David Austin roses.

Quilled Paper Alphabet by Dan Hoopert Letter A

19 year old Uk-based graphic designer Dan Hoopert has crafted an intricate 3D alphabet series out of swirled quilled tendrils of paper as a personal project. The ornate detail in each of the letters is absolutely remarkable! For creation of typography in the realm of paper, this definitely sets itself apart from the rest. One can only imagine the amount of hours it took to produce this piece. Well done!

Quilled Designs by Ann Martin of All Things Paper Jewelry

Talented Delaware-based quilling paper artist and blogger Ann Martin, who explores the worlds of creative paper art and paper craft, has been kind enough to share her work with our viewers. After seeing an article about quilling in a magazine, Ann embarked on her journey to explore this newfound skill. The coils and scrolls drew her in and ultimately piqued her interest in making these incredible and beautiful pieces from just paper and glue. At the time, she didn't know anyone who made quilling art, so she learned from books and online tutorials. From this, she wanted to share her love of paper crafting and thus the All Things Paper blog was born.

Curled Paper Mosaics by Gunjan Aylawadi

Gunjan Aylawadi Tikrar

Gunjan Aylawadi is a uniquely astounding paper artist based in Sydney, Australia. Her technique, which is influenced by her cultural identity and the Middle Eastern architectural motif, employs the act of "curling" strips of paper to form these incredible, highly detailed illustrative pieces. Similar to quilling, curling appears to be one long strip of paper literally curled to a specific tightness and then placed to form these large textiles. Each work requires deep commitment, both physically and emotionally, and can take Gunjan up to several months to complete.

The latest quilled portrait from talented paper artist Yulia Brodskaya. From her last piece Loves Doves to this piece, she has definitely changed the tone of colors to be less of a skin tone varient in terms of palette and more vibrant. This woman's face bursts with swirls of color as she smokes her pipe and seems to be a perfect blend into the start of Spring.

Second Nature: Quilled NYT “T” by Sherry Rodehaver

Second Nature: Quilled NYT "T" by Sherry Rodehaver

Quilling, as we have showcased several times throughout Strictlypaper, is the art of rolling and pinching thin strips of paper into very unique designs. Sherry Rodehaver has been quilling since 1971, and for this piece entitled "Second Nature," she, along with four other women, reimagined the symbolic "T" for the New York Times as a field bursting with sunflowers, dandelions and a butterfly that feels as if it would fly away from the illustraton. Rodehaver explained to the New York Times Style Magazine, “I never want anybody to walk away from my work without having that wow factor.” This speaks volumes since it has definitely left me with a "WOW" exclamation on my face!
