Paper Cut Letters by Annie Vought

Annie Vought believes that "a letter is physical confirmation of who we were at the moment it was written, or all we have left of a person or a time." In creating these astoundingly detailed paper cut letters she focuses on the text, structure, and emotion that each conveys to explore their inner properties of writing and expression. In her recreation of each letter there is "an extended concentration on peoples’ inner lives and the ways they express their thoughts through writing."

Jared Andrew Schorr is an illustrator based out of Southern California that creates remarkable playful illustrations that have a very retro appeal to them. He has created the Spacephabet typography series showcasing the letters Q, R, S & T that was for a past gallery showing for Illustrated Type. Happycentro Typographic Origami

Happycentro is a collaborative design studio based out of Verona, Italy that was one of the 30 artists invited to interpret the alphabet in their own unique way to be showcased at the Gallery Nucleus exhibition for handwritten and experimental typography. Happycentro is a studio of all trades, with their specialties ranging from visual art, typography, graphic design, illustration, animation, film direction and even music. Most of their work is comprised of computer-driven pieces, but they have been delving into more hands on projects. This particular piece is a perfect example of the merging of the two skill sets, where they have a double play on words "typography" and "fly", where the typographic origami pieces are shown as a specimens in a case.

3D Alphabet Paper Sculptures by Jerome Corgier

French artist Jerome Corgier is a talented illustrator who is a part of Atelier Pariri, a graphic workshop and design studio based based out of France. He recently completed a typography series which he started back in March where he handcrafted a different letter of the alphabet per day, each done with paper. He has quite a range of designs that he made as well as numbers of layers used for each letter, which you almost don't realize upon looking from above. Overall this looks like it was a pretty awesome and "crafty" project to work on.

Bodoni Bedlam: A Pop-Up Book by Victoria Macey

We have featured a lot of different types of pop-up books throughout the site. Some actual books, some animated while even having one that is interactive. What is different about this particular book is that it is an alphabet pop-up book, which displays the font, Bodoni, while telling a charming tale about a quest for the "Dees" that have been captured by the evil Dee Catcher. The writer, illustrator, and maker of this book is Victoria Macey who does a lovely job of showcasing a font as well as telling a story.

Cool Hunting Rough Cut: LoSiento

Cool Hunting - LoSiento 7 Cool Hunting recently had the chance to visit the Barcelona based studio LoSiento and created this wonderful interview with the founder Borja Martínez. LoSiento specializes in 3D typography, packaging and product design. We are big fans of their work and wrote about their fantastic Paper lettering project for EMPO. The video gives you a nice look behind the scenes and into the thinking of the studio.

Typographic Paper Sculpture: Still Life Comes Alive

Still Life Comes Alive by Brian Li

Brian Li, with the help of fellow teammates -- Sean Yendrys for art direction, design from Dominic Liu, Duc Tran and Stefan Spec, and creative direction from Kyosuke Nishida, have created a typographical installation of epic proportions that was exhibited in the FOFA Gallery hallway-vitrine for the Concordia University Design Department End of Year exhibition, during the Montréal Design Portes Ouvertes 2010. They assembled thousands of pieces of paper which were folded and glued together to form a sentence which literally and perfectly illustrates "Still Life Comes Alive".
