Vitamins & Placebo by Zim and Zou

zim-zou-vitamins-fruit

With a series of colorful projects such as vintage electronics or chef's masks, the french dynamic duo Zim and Zou has acquired a quite vibrant design style. In this series they have created a project for the magazine DER SPIEGEL Wissen about vitamins and placebo and their placement in the world.

For the vitamins series, there is one pill that contains fruits and vegetables which are rich in vitamins and nutrients. The second however, is more about the darker side of the industry and the money that it is after. For the placebo portion, they created fake boxes of medicine with fake names, such as Obecalp = placebo for instance, where some are sliced to show their emptiness.

New Tysons by Zim and Zou

New Tysons by Zim and Zou

Zim and Zou are by far one of my many favorite paper artists, stretching the boundaries of paper art to produce some remarkable creations. We have written posts about them several times in the past and they never cease to amaze us. With this particular piece they tell a story surrounding Washington, DC suburbs, where four metro stations will open. The more familiar car driven area will now suddenly have public transit which will hopefully make it feel more like a city -- adding more pedestrian walkways, apartments, grocery stores... making it more of a place that people will actually want to live than just work.

Zim and Zou: Back to Basics

Zim and Zou - Back to Basics 1 The french duo Zim and Zou strikes again with their new personal project called "Back to Basics" where they crafted a lot of vintage electronics like a Nintendo Gameboy, a Leica and a Polaroid Camera, a Sony Walkman, Cassettes and many more... the amount of detail they put into each paper craft is astounding and shows their true passion for the craft. The project took about a year to be born and is still in progress. We handpicked a couple pictures here but you can see many more on their project page on the behance network. Enjoy.

Barcelona’s Architectural Landmarks Crafted in Pink Paper

Barcelona's Architectural Landmarks Crafted in Pink Paper - Freixenet

French Studio Zim and Zou have created a colorful campaign for Spanish sparkling wine brand Freixenet, using paper varying shades of pink to create a backdrop of the city of Barcelona. Each building is meticulously crafted to fit into this architectural landscape lined with landmarks from the Catalan capital — including Gaudi’s Sagrada Família, Casa Mila, Parc de la Ciutadella, and buildings in Park Güell. All made by hand, these buildings have been carefully cut, glued and assembled into miniature renditions of the well-known cityscape.

Creative Factory Paper Installation by Zim & Zou

Creative Factory Paper Installation by Zim & Zou

Lo and behold the latest creation from Zim and Zou, a handmade installation comprised of many colorful shades of paper for the Children's Workshop (5-11 yr) at the Pompidou Center of Metz. The idea behind this piece was to highlight the contradiction between a unique hand crafted machine and the automation of industrial production of objects. To use the machine, some paper scraps have to be inserted in the main module, once the scraps are refined into geometric shapes, the control panel finally reveals the papercraft. In this workshop, children play with handmade rubber stamps and build their own papercrafts of a simplified machine, paper food, or the like.
