Pippa Dyrlaga is a paper cutting artist, whose work is often comprised of delicate works inspired by nature, birds and architecture around where she currently lives in Hebden Bridge, England. “My paper cut works are mostly cut from a single sheet of paper,” she mentions in her artist statement, “They are first drawn out by hand on the reverse of the paper, and then hand cut using a scalpel, and can take hours to complete. The process is just as important to me as the finished product.”

Her incredibly detailed cut paper illustrations start from a sketch and then they are each cut with an Xacto knife and can take many hours to create, some as many as 50hrs. WOW. With each new project she challenges herself by making them a little more complicated each time.

“I love the simplicity of making intricate artworks from just a single sheet of paper and nothing else, removing pieces to create lace-like images. I am influenced by the Art Deco period, which shows up quite often in my work.” – Pippa Dyrlaga
