March 2nd – March 5th, 2017
If you are looking for something to do today amongst all of the amazing art shows on this weekend in New York, I have just the thing for all paper enthusiasts. Be sure to stop by Art On Paper Exhibition at Pier 36, Paradigm Gallery + Studio – Booth E1. They will be showing four artists that I think are a must see. In order above from left to right, Charles Clary, Seth Clark, Kelly Kozma and Alex Eckman-Lawn. There is a range from cut paper collage, mixed media paper reliefs, to hole-punched paper and photographs forming new pieces. You have until tomorrow, so be sure to swing through!
About the artists
Charles Clary | Par-a-Double Diddle Infestation Movement #1, 2016 Hand cut paper and wallpaper on distressed drywall
Charles Clary | Stachybotrys Atr-a-Double Diddle Infestation Movement #2, 2016 Hand-cut paper and wallpaper on distressed drywall
Charles Clary we have had the pleasure of writing about previously. “I use paper to create a world of fiction that challenges the viewer to suspend disbelief and venture into my fabricated reality,” he mentions in his artist statement. “By layering paper I am able to build intriguing land formations that mimic viral colonies and concentric sound waves.”
Alex Eckman-Lawn | Loculus Aura, 2017 Cut paper/collage
Alex Eckman-Lawn | Helpless Supine, 2017 Cut paper/collage
Alex Eckman-Lawn is a Philadelphia born illustrator whose work has appeared in comic books, on album covers, book covers, T-shirts, music videos, and posters. He uses a unique style of cut paper merged with collage, layering each panel to produce the illusion of staring into a set stage performance.
Kelly Kozma | I Like You, 2017 Punched paint chips & paper hand stitched together with embroidery thread
Kelly Kozma | Disposable Not Disposable, 2015 Photographs and film negatives hand stitched together with embroidery thread
Kelly Kozma is a mixed media & fiber artist from Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Her current works combines hand embroidery, punched paint chips, painting and hand embroidery with, “elements of chance and probability to create vivid, pattern driven pieces,” she mentions in her artist statement.
Seth Clark | Mass XX, 2016 Collage, charcoal, pastel, acrylic, graphite on wood
Seth Clark | Mass VI, 2016 Collage, charcoal, pastel, acrylic, graphite on wood
Seth Clark grew up in Seekonk, Massachusetts with a focus primarily on print design and alternative typography. During his studies, he discovered collage and has since incorporated a mixture of collage, charcoal, pastel, acrylic, and even graphite on wood. This mixed media method of hands-on, spatial development took a major role in his digital work as well as his physical works on wood and paper.
