Sybille Schenker is a Berlin based Illustrator that is currently mainly working with paper cuts. She created a children’s book that re-images the folk story Hänsel and Gretel using paper cuts and transparencies.
“The layering of textures and silhouettes deepens the mystery and darkness of the forest, which the reader must navigate alongside the children in the story.”—Sybille Schenker
Hänsel and Gretel is a tale that long predates the Grimm brother’s telling; with this book, Sybille created her own version to pass on to the next generation.
All original paper cuts and the book itself were shown at Sybilles MFA Thesis Show 2009 at the Visual Arts Gallery in New York City. The book is going to be published by minedition in fall 2012. Congrats Sybille.
