The Ice Book by Davy and Kristin McGuire

The Ice Book is a modernized version of our more familiar take on pop-up books. This piece itself, which formulates through a pop-up book, a mixture of theater, and video projections, produces a truly beautiful and enchanting piece of art and Davy and Kristin McGuire are the brillance behind it. Originally The Ice Book was created as a demonstration model to get funding for making a larger scale production, but ultimately it has now transformed into a standalone sensation.

“I always had the dream of creating a theatre performance that opened up like a pop-up book. A show that would mix video projections with live actors to create a totally immersive experience. We wanted to create a full scale, life-size theatre production.” — Davy McGuire

It tells the story of a mysterious princess who lures a boy into her magical world to warm her heart of ice. It is made from sheets of paper and light, designed to give a live audience an intimate and immersive experience of film, theatre, dance, mime and animation. With the many innovative pieces that are being achieved through the use of paper it can only make you wonder what will be next. For more background about The Ice Book visit www.theicebook.com.
